issue 11 out now!

Heartbreaks and renewed husband-hunting; labour strikes in the strangest places; and political sidelining that comes with consequences; the characters in this, Extra Teeth’s eleventh issue, are fighting back against the forces in their worlds.

Whether it’s trying to care for a loved one far away, turning rage and hatred into pure lust, or striking out in places that have been made alien, these stories are full of boldness and agency— published alongside essays that consider the meaning of home, language and how we belong.

Featuring some of Scotland’s best emerging and established writers alongside exciting voices from further afield, the twelve stories and essays that comprise Issue Eleven of Extra Teeth are all translated into brash and beautiful graphics by Glasgow-based illustrator Agnes Boman.

Extra Teeth appears in glorious physical copies only to celebrate the timeless power of print.

Order Issue Eleven here, and add one of our merch bundles to further support the magazine, and haul your books around in the hottest tote bag in Scotland.

Autumn Workshop Online: Polish Your Prose with Cailean Steed. October 6th, 7pm, on Zoom
£40.00

We are thrilled to announce this, the first of three workshops focusing on craft this autumn—and we’re especially stoked that we have novelist and teacher extraordinaire, Cailean Steed, leading us into the colder months!

Are you unsure about how make your line work as good as your storytelling? Do you always feel like your sentences let you down? Or that you’re uncertain how to use and break the rules of grammar, syntax and sentence structure? This workshop is for YOU.

Here’s the blurb:

Join writer and semi-colon enthusiast Cailean Steed for a relaxed and supportive workshop focused on boosting your technical writing skills. This workshop is aimed at writers interested in improving their knowledge and understanding of the principles underpinning grammar, in order to create writing that is intentional and effective.

To be held online, on Zoom, October 6th, 7-8:30pm

About the tutor:

Cailean Steed is a writer based near Glasgow, Scotland. Their first novel, Home, was published by Raven Bloomsbury in the UK, North America, Australia and New Zealand. The Telegraph named Cailean one of their ‘Four Best Debut Novelists’ of 2023, and Home received excellent reviews in The Irish Independent, Scotland on Sunday and Good Reading Magazine. Their second novel, The Mirror Halls, will be published in 2027 by John Murrays in the UK and Little, Brown in the US.

Cailean completed a Masters in Creative Writing at the university of Glasgow in 2017, graduating with Distinction, and has been the recipient of various residencies and bursaries, including the Radical Care residency at Moniack Mhor, and grants from Literature Alliance Scotland and Creative Scotland. They are currently working on their third novel, inspired by Scottish folklore and trans narratives.
